General & Family Dental Care you can Trust
Preventative Dentistry
Preventative care is the foundation of dentistry. The American Dental Association recommends visiting your dentist regularly— usually about twice yearly—for full cleanings, examinations, and consultations for potential treatment. Professional dental cleanings help remove built-up plaque that is not removable using conventional brushing and flossing. Dentists can often identify potential problems that patients cannot see or feel. When you maintain regular preventative dental appointments, you can stave off decay and gum disease, as well as identify the beginnings of oral health problems before they become severe.
Patients can practice preventive dentistry at home by developing a good oral health routine. At Handley Dental, we recommend an oral health routine that includes brushing, flossing, and using mouthwash twice a day. We recommend using a soft-bristle toothbrush with low-abrasive, fluoridated toothpaste. With this combination, you can remove everyday debris without damaging your teeth and gums. Additionally, the fluorinated part of the toothpaste and mouthwash will strengthen the enamel, the tooth’s outer surface, to decrease the risk of tooth decay.
Cosmetic Dentistry
Another type of dentistry that we offer at Handley Dental is cosmetic dentistry. If you are looking to brighten, straighten, or enlarge your smile, you are in the right place. Handley Dental offers at-home and in-office teeth whitening, dental veneers, and dental bonding. Restorative Dentistry
Dr. Handley and Dr. Chang understand that dental concerns can arise, such as a broken, decayed, or injured tooth. At Handley Dental, we offer several restorative services, from dental fillings to bonding to crowns to bridges to implants. We have a solution for you if your tooth needs restoration. Below are a few of our most common restorative procedures.
Dental Fillings
The most common dental restoration is a dental filling. Most often, we use dental fillings when a tooth has dental decay. First, we will remove the dental decay and fill the cavity with a composite resin. The composite resin is a malleable material that can form in your tooth and then harden. Once we remove the decay and fill the cavity, the tooth is restored and less likely to spread decay elsewhere.
Dental Crowns
We recommend dental crowns for patients with significant decay or chipped teeth. A dental crown is like a cap that fits over the top of the tooth. To place a dental crown, first, we will remove decay if there is any. They then reduce the tooth to an ideal size for a strong crown. Then we will make an impression of your tooth which will be sent off to a lab to design the final dental crown. Lastly, we use high strength dental resin cements to attach the dental crown to your existing tooth. Dental crowns are made of porcelain which is a durable and stain-resistant material.
Dental Implants
If you have one or more missing teeth, we may recommend a dental implant. A dental implant replaces the entire tooth from the tooth’s root to the chewing surface. We replace the tooth’s root with a titanium post. We place the post first to complete the restoration, and the bone secures it in place by growing around the implant. Next, the abutment is placed, connecting the post to the attachment. Lastly, an attachment can be a dental crown, bridge, or denture. Attachments are chosen according to the number of teeth you want to restore.
